The soldier suspected of being responsible for firing the bullet that killed his friend, the late Corporal Baruch Kabrata, gave his version of the difficult incident this evening (Tuesday), during the hearing on the request of the military attorney’s office to extend his detention. As part of taking responsibility for his actions, the soldier asked to remove the publication ban on his name.
In his words he claimed that he was not playing with his weapon, and the disaster occurred while he was trying to operate a safety malfunction in the weapon. The soldier’s defenders on behalf of the military defense, Col. (res.) Oded Saburai and Major May Arbel, said that “since the disaster, the soldier has been in a difficult mental state. Despite this, he is cooperating fully with the Ministry of Defense’s investigation, recounting in detail the Everything that happened and performed a reconstruction at the scene.”
From the details of the initial investigation conducted after the incident, it emerged that the fighters in the Erez Battalion of the Crossings Unit were playing with weapons at the Anat checkpoint north of Jerusalem – and at one point a bullet was fired that hit Kabarata. He was seriously injured, and died of his wounds after resuscitation attempts in the field.
