In Dharmapuri district from April 2021 to December 2022, two lakh 651 kg of ration rice worth 11 lakh 33 thousand 678 rupees, which was tried to be smuggled from Dharmapuri district to foreign countries, has been confiscated by the district supply officers led by District Supply Officer Jayakumar. The department has confiscated one lakh, 90 thousand, 385 kg of ration rice worth 10 lakh, 75 thousand, 675 rupees. Accordingly, a total of ration rice worth 22 lakhs, 9,353 rupees has been confiscated.
73 vehicles seized in smuggling of ration rice were auctioned and 32 lakhs, 55 thousand, 527 rupees were paid to the government account. 235 cases have been registered in connection with smuggling of ration rice.
In Dharmapuri district, there is a situation where smuggling of ration rice cannot be completely prevented due to lack of sufficient posts in the Civil Supplies and Crime Investigation Department. Also, the circle supply officers have a safe vehicle and when they go to prevent rice smuggling, the police security is less.
