Aviation chaos: all flights in the US were grounded due to a computer malfunction

by time news

The US media reported today (Wednesday) that all flights across the country were grounded due to a malfunction in the computer system of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This was after the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system failed.

The system is responsible for sending messages to the pilots of the various companies. On behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration, it was stated that “there is currently no estimate of when the system will return to work.” As a result, approximately 760 flights in and out of the US were delayed as of 6:30 a.m., with 90 flights officially canceled. The FAA stressed that “passengers arriving at airports are expected to experience delays later today, please stay in touch with your airlines “.

As you may recall, last October Russian hackers were suspected of a cyber attack against US airports. According to the report, the hackers took down several websites from the air, including that of LaGuardia Airport in New York, and Chicago International Airport.

This is not the first time that Russia has been accused of a cyber attack against vital infrastructure in foreign countries. Last May, Britain and the European Union claimed that Russia was behind a massive cyber attack that took place at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, against a satellite Internet network. The attack took thousands of modems offline.
