Thibaut Courtois, the magician with outstretched arms, made it through the penalty shoot-out on the day that Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup final without bleeding. The shootout decision was decided in the semi-final against Valencia after the game was tied at 1-1 at full time and went scoreless in extra time.
Karim Benzema gave Real a valuable lead in the first half of the game. Benzema scored the penalty after being fouled by the opponent inside the penalty box. After the break, Valencia took the lead through Samuel Lino. In extra time, Vinicius Jr. came close to the goal, but Valencia goalie Giorgi Mamardashvili made a save and it went to a shootout. Jose Gaya’s shot was saved by Cordova when Valencia’s first kick went wide.
The winner of the second semi-final between Real Betis and Barcelona will be the opponent of Real in the final.
