After the abandonment of the reception center for migrants, LFI fears “the fascist threat”

The small local project took on national resonance. On Thursday, deputies from La France insoumise criticized the government’s inaction in the face of the “fascist threat” in reaction to the abandonment of a project for a reception center for refugees. Called Horizon and financed by a private fund, this scheme aimed to revitalize the town of Callac, a small rural town in central Brittany, by welcoming dozens of refugees over several years in disused buildings in the town.

The announcement of the abandonment had been made on Wednesday by the various left mayor of the commune of Côtes-d’Armor, provoking a wave of indignation but also reactions of satisfaction, in particular from the far right.

A “trivialization of far-right ideas”?

Several elected officials had previously been subjected to multiple pressures, including death threats or invasions of their privacy. “The far-right groups have done everything possible to stop the project”, denounced Thursday in a press release the Insoumis deputies Murielle Lepvraud (Côtes-d’Armor) and Thomas Portes (Seine-Saint-Denis). President of the Observatory of the extreme right, the latter indicated that he had questioned the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and his counterpart in Justice Eric Dupond Moretti “about this latent violence”.

“The unbearable complacency of the government with the fascist militias leads everywhere on the territory to a trivialization of the ideas of the extreme right”, accused the deputies. The municipality of Callac was to welcome over several years a few dozen people recognized as refugees by the State and benefiting from a long-term residence permit on French territory.
