The resolution brought by Chief Minister Stalin that the Central Government should come forward to implement the Sethu Samudra Project was passed in the Legislative Assembly today.
Chief Minister Stalin brought a separate resolution insisting that the central government should come forward to implement the Setu Samudra project. Speaking then, he said, “Sethu Samudra project was blocked due to political reasons”. In the resolution proposed by the Chief Minister, “The Setu Samudra Project is an essential project for strengthening the economic development of Tamil Nadu and the economic development of India. The Government of Tamil Nadu will extend all cooperation to implement the Setu Samudra Project.
The Union Minister has said that it is difficult to say what kind of construction was the stumbling block for the Setu Samudra project. “We consider the non-implementation of the Setu Samudra project as a hindrance to the development of Tamil Nadu,” the resolution said. Following this, the resolution urged the central government to “implement the Sethu Samudra Project”.

Bharatiya Janata Party Legislature Leader Nayanar Nagendran said, “The sea is a shallow area and the soil keeps collapsing. They say there is a bridge built during the time of Rama whom we worship. We support the Setu Samudra project if it comes without damaging the Ram Bridge. May also include Pachori Committee report. Tsunami etc. are considered to be frequent areas. If the project is implemented without harming the Ram Path, BJP will support Tamil Nadu,” he said.
Former AIADMK Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said, “Sethu Samudra Project is a useful project. The pros and cons should be analyzed and the plan implemented. That is the position of former Chief Minister Amma. Jayalalitha’s opinion is that the sand should be cut safely as the sand moves while taking the sand for the canal. Jayalalitha’s stance is that a plan should be explored. We are just saying that the effects of the project should be addressed,” he said.

BAMA member Mani said, “If this is brought, Tuticorin port will develop on par with Singapore port. Shipping between Chennai and other countries will increase. Shipping time will be reduced. There will be economic austerity. Jobs will increase. Foreign exchange is also likely to increase. He said that he would fully support the steps taken by the Tamil Nadu government to implement the project.
Minister Thangam Tennarasu said, “Cargo transport is done from Colombo port. There is no transshipment from Tuticorin port. There is an expectation that Tuticorin port will become a transshipment port. Sethu Samudra project is very important if sea trade is to flourish in modern times. This project will be important to attract new business investments,” he said.
The Communist Party of India, Marxist Communist Party, Tamil Nadu Life Rights Party, Kongu Nadu People’s National Party, Madhyamik Party, and the Liberation Tigers Party have expressed their support for the resolution brought by the Chief Minister.
