Mumbai: After football world cup live telecasting, Reliance is looking for the possibility of IPL telecasting. The 2022 FIFA World Cup was streamed for free on the GeoCinema app. Reportedly, Jio is planning to try a similar model. Last year, Reliance’s Viacom18 bought the digital media rights for the 2023-2027 seasons of IPL for Rs 23,758 crore.

Earlier, there were reports that Viacom18 is considering a plan to compete in the live sports streaming market. It is hinted that there will be more offering of subscription packages for better experience. Reports suggest that there are also plans to make IPL broadcast available in regional languages, allowing users of other telcos to watch free IPL with Jio Telecom subscription packages or access some form of free streaming on JioCinema.

Viaco 18, owned by Reliance Industries, owned the broadcasting rights of the Football World Cup in India. The matches were televised through Viacom 18’s Sports 18 channel. Reliance had already stated that Jio SIM is not required to watch live streaming on Jio Cinema2. An opportunity was also provided to anyone with a network connection to download Jio Cinema and watch the World Cup through Jio Cinema for free.
