The High Court had issued an official letter to the State Government regarding the space limitation in the High Court complex near Mangala Forest

Kochi: The Kerala High Court is examining the possibility of shifting Kochi from the heart of the city to Kalamassery. Following the High Court’s request, the state government has acquired 27 acres of land in Kalamassery. Government sources said the final decision on the change would be with the High Court Administrative Committee.

The High Court had issued an official letter to the State Government regarding the land limitation in the High Court complex near Mangala Forest. The letter also pointed out that the lawyers were facing difficulties in parking their vehicles. The letter also explained the situation where the construction work is facing difficulties as it is an environmentally sensitive area.

The new location was found by the state government after the request of the High Court. 27 acres of land was found near Kalamasery HMT. Justice Muhammad Mushtaq of the High Court, Chief Secretary Dr. V.P. Joy, Law Secretary V. Hari Nair, District Collector Renu Raj, High Court Registrar General P. Krishnakumar came directly and checked.

Apart from the High Court, it is aimed to build institutions and systems at the international level including the Mediation Center in Kalamasery. Judges’ office, Advocate General’s office, lawyers’ chambers and parking facilities are planned to be set up at Kalamasery. Special facilities will also be provided for women lawyers.

In the event that the state government has identified the site, the final decision has to be taken by the High Court Administrative Committee. Government sources told Mathrubhumi News that further steps will be taken immediately after the decision of the committee.
