Yesterday (Friday) the Ministry of Health was notified of a positive rabies case in Kibbutz Shanir in the Upper Galilee. The two residents of the north who were exposed to tin started preventive treatment. About two months ago, it was reported about a rabies-infected jackal found in an open area between the Moshavs Mela and Gadish in the Emek Gilboa Regional Council.
The Ministry of Health requests everyone who was in contact or whose animals came into contact in the area of the incident with the infected animal or a stray animal, between the dates 12.23.2022 and 1.6.2023 – to urgently contact the Health Bureau in Safed, phone 04-6994257, 04-6994200, or to the health office closest to his place of residence, in order to consider the need to provide them with preventive care. After working hours and during the weekend you should go to a hospital emergency room.
The Ministry of Health also stated: “The information about the incident is requested to be passed on to travelers and vacationers in the area and nearby communities. Parents of children are asked to find out with their children if they have been in contact with suspicious animals and to contact the health bureau urgently. Pet owners are asked to contact the official veterinarian, in order to verify the situation their vaccination.

According to the instructions of the Ministry of Health, anyone who has been bitten or scratched by an animal should immediately wash the area with running water and soap, disinfect with disinfectants and go to the health office to check if it is necessary to receive preventive treatment against rabies.
