The Eti Airlines flight crashed between the old and new airports of the city located in western Nepal. The flight was carrying 68 passengers and four crew members.

The twin-engine ATR 72 flight operated by Eti Airlines was en route from Nepal’s capital Kathmandu to Pokhara when the accident occurred. It is reported that rescue operations have been hampered due to the fire caused by the accident. Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prasanda has called an emergency cabinet meeting.

According to the General Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the flight took off from Kathmandu at 10:33 am. The plane was about to land at Pokhara airport when it crashed on the banks of the Seti river.

The accident reportedly occurred about 20 minutes after takeoff. The flight time between the two cities is only 25 minutes. It has been reported that 16 bodies have been recovered so far.

In 1992, a Pakistan International Airlines flight crashed on approach to Kathmandu, killing all 167 people on board. This is the most devastating accident. Two months ago, a Thai Airways flight crashed near the same airport, killing 113 people.
