On the morning of Pongal day, the 7 girls who fast for a week are portrayed as Amman, dressed in new clothes, garlands around their necks and carrying pots full of Pongal on their heads to the sound of drums. There, 7 girls are loaded in the boat and they go for a short distance in the sea and return to the shore after worshiping the mother of the sea to break coconuts and start a fishing business.
Then the people come to the temple and pay respects to them. Villagers thronged the beach to witness this Saptha Kanniya Pongal ritual.
