A fire broke out last night (15) in the Middleton section of Loki Estate, Thalawakala under Thalawakala police division, and 7 houses in the 12-room Lion residence were completely gutted.
Also, 5 houses were partially damaged. As a result, more than 49 people belonging to 12 families have become homeless.
There was a sudden fire in the Lion residence last night. After this people came out shouting. The fire spread rapidly.

The spread of the fire was brought under control after about three hours by plantation workers from the same estate and local residents along with Thalawakkala police.
No one was injured in the fire as the large number of people living in the houses had gone to attend the Thai Pongal event held in the garden when the fire broke out.
Due to this fire, the personal belongings of the plantation workers and the school books and equipment of the children living in the houses were completely destroyed.
Out of the 12 families affected by the fire, only 3 families have been accommodated in Thalawakkala Tamil Maha Vidyalaya.
Cause of fire
Also, the Talawakkala police, who are investigating the fire incident, said that 9 families have been temporarily accommodated in their relatives’ houses.
The Talavakala Perundotta Company and local residents have taken steps to provide infrastructural facilities to the displaced people.
The Thalawakkala Police are conducting further investigations as the cause of the fire is still unknown.
