Houston,

The World Table Tennis Championships are being held in the United States. In the women’s doubles quarterfinals, India’s Manika Bhadra and Archana lost 1-11, 6-11, 8-11 to Sarah de Nate-Ni Sia Lyon (Luxembourg).

Similarly, in a mixed doubles quarterfinal match, Manika Bhadra and G. Sathyan of Tamil Nadu lost 5-11, 2-11, 11-7, 9-11 to Tomakaju Harimotta-Hina Hyatta (Japan).

No Indian has won a medal at the World Table Tennis Championships since 1926. At least the bronze medal would have been assured if the Indian pair had won in the quarterfinals. They missed that rare opportunity.
