Happy Pongal 2023: All over Tamil Nadu people are celebrating Matup Pongal and Kanum Pongal with enthusiasm. Elephant Pongal festival is celebrated every year on the eve of Mathu Pongal Day, as a way of thanking the elephants who help the forest and the forest department in various tasks. Accordingly, this year, the Elephant Pongal Festival organized at the Kozhikamuthi Elephant Camp honored the elephants in the morning by bathing them, placing potti and garlanding them.
The hill people offered Pongal to Lord Surya by putting a traditional Patti Manmana on it and then the favorite food of the elephants, sugarcane and banana, and each elephant was given food including kollu, ragi and rice. A large number of tourists from various districts of Tamil Nadu participated in this Elephant Pongal festival.
On the occasion of Srijalakandeeswarar Mattu Pongal in Vellore Fort, special abhishekams were made to Nandi Bhagavan, special decorations were made with fruit patsanas, Mahadeeparathanams were performed by devotees and Samithiruvudal Utsavam was held.

Cattle Pongal is celebrated in Thoothukudi where domestic cows are reared. Pongal was celebrated by decorating the cows and offering Deepa Puja.
On Ettayapuram road in Thoothukudi, Mr. Gani is rearing and maintaining more than a hundred indigenous cows. Cows were bathed and decorated with sandalwood and kumkum on the cow pongal today in Kosala.
On the occasion of Pongal, two tons of vegetables, fruits and sweets were specially decorated for Lord Nandyam.
Go pooja for 108 cows
A special decoration and Deeparathana was held for Mahanandi on the occasion of Mattu Pongal at the world famous Thanjavur Big Temple. Nandi was decorated with all kinds of vegetables, fruits, flowers and sweets offered by devotees weighing about 2 thousand kg. Then the decorated Nandyam was shown 16 types of Deepharatanas called special Sodasa Upasara.

After this 108 cows and calves brought from different parts of the district were wrapped in clothes like turmeric, sandalwood, kumquat, flower sprinkling, veshti, saree, towel and cow-puja was performed. Bananas and Pongal were given to cows. Cow Pongal, which was held with only one cow due to corona virus, was held after two years with much criticism. A large number of devotees participated in this and had darshan of Swami.
Ahead of the Pongal festival in Palani, thousands of devotees thronged the hill temple to have darshan of Swami. Many devotees brought Kavadi and had darshan of Swami.
On the occasion of Pongal, a Tamil festival in Palani, a shrine was opened at four o’clock in the morning at Palani’s auspicious Thandayuthapani Swamy temple and special pujas were performed to the Moolavar Thandayuthapani Swamy.

Pongal festival was held today in many places in the tourist town Nilgiris. In particular, the Samatthu Pongal festival, which was attended by the Tourism Minister of Tamil Nadu and the District Collector, took place in the Udagai Government Botanical Garden. The Pongal festival was celebrated with joyous chants of Pongal Ponga Pongalo Pongal in an earthen pot with a red mulberry.
The tourists who participated in the Pongal festival competitions said that they are happy to visit the Udgai Government Botanical Garden for the Pongal holidays and after participating in the Pongal festival competitions and enjoying the park with their families, they are happy.
