New Delhi: The XBB.1.5 variant that caused the outbreak in America is on the rise in India. Currently 26 cases have been reported in the country. Insacog (Indian Sars-Cov-2 Genomics Consortium), a consortium of laboratories, has released the figures in this regard.

According to the data released by INSACOG, the new variant has been reported in 11 states. XBB.1.5 is behind about 44 percent of Covid cases in America. The data also shows that the BF.7 variant responsible for the spread in China has risen to 14 in the country. The BF.7 variant has been reported four in West Bengal, three in Maharashtra, two each in Haryana and Gujarat, and one each in Odisha, Delhi and Karnataka.

XBB with Omicron’s own BJ1 and BA2.75 subunits. XBB-1.5 is a sub-variant of the variant. The most virulent of the Covid variants was first reported in Singapore in August. Symptoms include sore throat, runny nose, cough, fever, fatigue, headache, diarrhea and vomiting.

The BF7 variant was previously reported in countries like America, UK, Belgium, Germany, France and Denmark. Health experts say that severe sore throat, runny nose, body aches and high fever are more common in the BF-7 variant.
