Ernakulam: A case of homicide has been registered against the owners of Hotel Majilis, which caused food poisoning in North Paravur. One person is in custody in the incident. Hasinaar, the cook of Majilis Hotel, was arrested. The owner is absconding. The license of the hotel was canceled by the health department. Due to health problems, more people who ate at the hotel are seeking treatment. Health problems were experienced by those who ate kommanti, alfam, shawai etc. Mayonnaise was also eaten by many.
In the morning, three students were first admitted to the Paravur Taluk Hospital. Then the number of food poisoning cases rose rapidly. Everyone experienced chills, diarrhea and severe fatigue. Health Minister Veena George informed that the license of Majlis Hotel has been suspended. Further action will be taken after the results of the food samples are out.

After noticing the incident, the Food Safety Commissioner was instructed to conduct an immediate inspection and submit a report. Action is taken on the basis of this report. Today, the Food Safety Department inspected a total of 189 establishments. 2 unsanitary and unlicensed establishments were suspended. Notices were issued to 37 institutions.

Apart from the residents of North Paravur who had eaten from the Majilis, those affected by food poisoning also sought treatment elsewhere. Most of them have eaten during the journey at the hotel located along the national highway. People sought treatment including Kozhikode. Municipal Chairperson Prabhavati said that the inspections will be made more stringent. But the opposition complains that the tests are a farce. Paravur Municipal Corporation, Leader of Opposition Nitin said that the hotels will leak information while the measures are being considered.
