Udo category “relatively spared by unemployment”: this is how the new study by Pôle emploi and Apec, taken up by Le Figaro, qualifies the executives. In 2021, the rate of jobseekers among French executives was 4.1%, corresponding to a situation of full employment, according to the criteria of the International Labor Organization (ILO).

In the same era, national unemployment rate was 7.9%. Managers therefore benefit from a privileged position on the labor market. And yet, not everyone is in the same boat.

According to the study, certain recurring traits indeed characterize executives seeking employment. Depending on their age, their place of residence or their level of education, their access to employment is far from being as easy. Thus, the least qualified executives are over-represented among job seekers: 20% of unemployed executives have a level of education below bac+2, compared to 14% of employed executives.

The “age” factor

Unemployment is also more common among executives residing in Île-de-France: 40% of executive job seekers are from the Ile-de-France region, compared to 35% of employed executives. Another geographical factor: periods of unemployment are generally longer among executives residing in priority neighborhoods for city policy (QPV). Thus, 66% of executive job seekers residing in a QPV have not found a job after six months, compared to 49% elsewhere.READ ALSO Is one in two French people unemployed when they retire?

Finally, the factor “age” comes into play. After six months of unemployment, 71% of executive job seekers aged over 55 have still not found a job. Senior executives are thus more exposed to long-term unemployment, while it is quite rare among young people. On the other hand, young executives are the most exposed to shorter periods of unemployment: 32% of executive job seekers, ie almost a third, are in fact under 35 years old.
