PM in ‘Pathan’ controversy; BJP workers advised not to make unnecessary statements about movies

Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Pathan’ had been in controversy before the release of the Bollywood film. Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come to the scene with a demand not to make unnecessary comments about the movie. It is reported that Modi asked the BJP leaders to stay away from such controversies. The film will release on January 25.

The Prime Minister put forward this proposal at the BJP National Executive Committee meeting held in New Delhi on January 16 and 17. Sources in the party said that the Prime Minister pointed out that some party workers were making such statements about some films.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra criticized the song ‘Besharam Rang’ in Pathan. It was alleged that the religious sentiments of the Hindu community were hurt. Mishra had said that the clothes used in the song had saffron and green colors and the way it was used was objectionable. Radical Hindutva organizations also came forward demanding boycott of Pathan. They were accused of insulting the saffron color through the song.

Bihar BJP leader Haribhushan Thakur Bachaul threatened to block the film’s release. “This is a dirty attempt to hurt the culture of the country. Bachoul also said that the color saffron is a symbol of ‘sanatana’ culture.

Bihar JD(U) leader Upendra Kushwaha’s response to the controversy was that no political party has the monopoly of any particular color and BJP is creating unnecessary controversies.

Maharashtra BJP leader Ram Kadav had also said that no film or serial that insults Hinduism will be screened in the state. Ram Kadam added that Maharashtra is ruled by a BJP government that follows Hindutva ideals and that the government will not allow any film or serial that insults Hindutva sentiments to be screened in the state.

The BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh have also demanded that the Yogi Adityanath government ban ‘Pathan’ in the state and take strict action against the film’s crew. A Chandigarh-based right-wing organization had also asked the state government to stop the screening of Pathan and take criminal action against the film’s crew for the song ‘Besharam Rang’. They also alleged that through this song scene, the makers of the film insulted the color saffron, which is considered sacred by the Hindu community.

Party members said that the Prime Minister spoke a lot about Sufism in the meeting.
