Shiomi, the third-largest smartphone maker in the world, will set up a plant in Beijing that produces hundreds of thousands of cars a year, the government-based economic development agency of the Chinese capital, Beijing E-Town, announced today (Saturday). The announcement was made in the agency’s account on the WeChat app – which only yesterday we announced that the government is taking partial boycott measures against it.

According to the announcement, the plant will be built in two phases, and upon completion of its construction in 2024 it is expected to produce 300,000 electric cars annually. This is a very impressive number for a single plant, but it alone does not pose a threat to the leading electric car maker, Tesla, which according to its report for the third quarter of 2021, produced within 240 months about 240,000 vehicles, so its annual number is much higher, and expected to rise Even more so with the opening of a huge factory near Berlin in the coming months. However, the Chinese manufacturer may threaten the American manufacturer by producing similar cars at a lower price, as it did against Apple and Samsung in the cellular field.

Shiomi’s intentions to enter the electric vehicle business were announced earlier this year, so it pledged to invest $ 10 billion in it in 10 years. Last month, the company’s CEO, Lei John, announced that the first plant and offices would both be set up in the business district of Beijing. In recent months, the company has opened many cellular stores across the country, with the intention of converting them into showrooms for its electric vehicles.
