A polar bear killed a woman and another child in the village of Wales in northwestern Alaska, the country’s media reported today (Wednesday). According to the reports, yesterday the security forces received a report of an attack by a polar bear at around 2:30 p.m., after the latter arrived in the village and chased several residents .

According to the police, a woman and a child were killed as a result of the attack. The bear was shot dead by one of the residents who was there. As of now, the identities of the victims have not yet been determined, but according to the security forces, officials are working to inform their relatives about the tragedy.

According to the Alaska Fish and Game Authority, in the winter polar bears can be found from the Wales area to the southern St. Lawrence Island, and sometimes even further south. The bears feed mainly on marine mammals, where the weight of the males may reach up to 600 kilograms and the females up to 350 kilograms.
