Kalachavadu publishing house was started in the year 1995. A total of 1,100 books have been published as works by prominent authors in Tamil literature.

The novels and other works of famous Tamil writers like Pudumaippittan, Ashokamithran, D. Janagiraman, Sundara Ramasamy, Indira Parthasarathy, MV Venkatram etc. have been published in full volumes. Perumal Murugan’s novel ‘Mathurubhagan’ which was released a few years back received a huge response.

Novels and volumes of stories by famous writers from Turkey, France, Ireland, England, America and other countries have been translated into Tamil. The novel ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ written by the American writer Ernest Hemingway has been translated into Tamil by M.Sivasubramanian as ‘Kilavanum Kadalum’.

2022 Nobel Laureate writer Annie Erno’s novel in Tamil titled ‘The Father’s Place’ has been translated by S.R.Krishnamurthy.

Works including more than 15 novels from French have been translated into Tamil by this publication. The French government has conferred the ‘Chevalier’ award on S.R. Sundaram, the publisher’s owner, for establishing a relationship between the Tamil publishing house and the French publishing house.

Ambai’s collection of short stories ‘Sivappuk Khuthu Eru Praviru’ by Kalachuwadu won the Sahitya Akademi award. Editor Aravindan says that along with the works of famous Tamil writers, Kalachuvadu is continuously publishing new works in all areas of Tamil, such as translated articles, modern short stories, poems, research books, scientific books.
