A case has been filed in the Maine Court of Appeal against Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda by representatives of two fisheries organisations.

Alleging that insufficient action has been taken to control the illegal transboundary activities of Indian fishermen, which are a threat to Sri Lanka’s marine resources and fishermen, the prosecution has requested the Supreme Court of Appeal to grant a writ to control these illegal activities by making full use of the relevant laws.

Minister Douglas Devananda has been named as the first defendant in the writ petition, while Indu Ratnayake, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, Susanda Kahawatta, Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and Anura Ekkanayake, Director General of the Sri Lankan Coastal Defense Department, have been named as defendants.
