Lima,

The South American country of Peru has been experiencing political instability for the past few years. In 2020, the country saw 3 presidents in 5 days.

In this situation, Pedro Castillo, a leftist who started his life as a school teacher, was elected as the President of Peru in June 2021, defeating the rightist Keiko. Meanwhile, various corruption charges were leveled against him. But Castillo categorically denies them.

Meanwhile, Pedro Castillo declared a state of emergency in Peru, dissolving the parliament and establishing a unique government aimed at restoring the rule of law and democracy.

This caused a great uproar there. The MPs rejected the President’s decision. And a referendum was held against Pedro Castillo in the country’s parliament, and a resolution was passed to strip him of his position.

A majority of MPs voted in favor of this resolution and Castillo lost his presidency. And he was arrested in the next few minutes for sedition and conspiracy. He was replaced by a 60-year-old female president, Tina Poluarte, who was vice president.

However, a Peruvian court rejected Castillo’s petition to release him from custody. Following this, Castillo’s supporters have jumped into protest demanding the release of Pedro Castillo and the resignation of Tina Poluarte.

As a result, Peru is seen as a field of struggle in many places in the country. Especially in the capital city of Lima, protesters joined together to hold a massive rally. Then there was a clash between the police and the protestors.

To control this, the police used batons on the protestors and dispersed the protest by throwing tear gas shells. It has been reported that one person has died and 30 people have been injured in this nationwide protest. There is tension in Peru due to continuous protests.
