The Supreme Court has placed an interim stay on the arrest of director Leena Manimekalai in the ‘Kali’ documentary post case in Chachai.

Director Leena Manimegalai released the poster of her documentary ‘Kali’ last year. It featured an image of the Hindu god Kali smoking a cigarette. This caused great confusion. Cases were registered against Leena Manimegali in various states.

In this case, Leena has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the ongoing trial against her in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand courts. Since the post was published, there have been public death threats; He also mentioned in the petition that the first information reports against him were against the right to freedom of expression.

The hearing on this petition was held on Friday before a session comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha.

At that time, lawyer Kamini Jaiswal, appearing on behalf of Leena, said, ‘Leena has no intention to hurt Hindus. The purpose of the documentary is to portray the all-pervading Kali,’ it said.

Subsequently, the judges ordered an interim injunction to take further action against Leena in the cases registered against her and the cases that may be registered henceforth.

‘All first information reports should be consolidated in one place by law. For this, we order notices to be sent to the central government and the governments of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand,’ the judges said.
