Pygmy rabbits live in North America. These are the rarest small rabbit breed in the world. A well-grown pygmy rabbit weighs between 350 grams and 500 grams. If we could fit two pygmy rabbits in the palm of our hands, imagine how tiny they would be!

Even if you want to keep pygmy rabbits at home, it is impossible to breed them. Because pygmy rabbits are very few in number. That means only 130 rabbits are found now. So pygmy rabbits are one of the protected animals. If you want to breed rabbits, you can breed other breeds of rabbits.

Pygmy rabbits require a nutritious diet. But, they do not have the power to digest that food easily. A pygmy rabbit reaches maturity within a year after birth. Fled within 27 to 30 days. Can give birth 3 times in a year.

Pygmy rabbits were declared extinct in 2001. However, 16 pygmy rabbits were rescued with the efforts of animal welfare activists. They were adopted by the Oregon Zoo. But increasing the number of pygmy rabbits was not so easy. The last male pygmy rabbit died in 2008. In order to increase the number of pygmy rabbits, they were bred with other species of rabbits. All existing pygmy rabbits are mixed breeds.

A fire in 2017 killed most of the pygmy rabbits. They fought hard and rescued 32 rabbits. Pygmy rabbit populations are still at an alarming level.
