Living together with dementia: project ‘Uit Je Zorg’ launched in the IJmond

by time news

Uit Je Zorg is a unique project in the IJmond, in which people dealing with dementia have contributed. The project has just been launched, and with that comes previews of activities that will be organized in the future.

Watch the report of the launch at D’Evelaer in Heemskerk here.

Dieneke Smit is the initiator of Uit Je Zorg. As the owner of the Reigershoeve, a care farm in Heemskerk for people with dementia, she knows how nice it is for this group of people to be and stay in touch if dementia plays a role in your life.

She explains why it is important now that there is attention for people living with dementia. This not only concerns the people who have been diagnosed, but also people in their immediate environment.

Smit: “We think that people with dementia and their loved ones have a hard time at home. People have to live at home for longer and need support from each other. Not only from what care providers have to offer. They themselves have a lot of knowledge to help each other with this. You then know better than anyone what it’s like when you’re in the same boat.”

Tastings

Dieneke explains which activities will be organized in the near future. “The singing circle. There are people with dementia and their loved ones singing together. It’s about doing enjoyable activities together. We also offer a painting workshop and a dance workshop.”

Dieneke calls on people dealing with dementia to visit the website of Uit Je Zorg IJmond. “That way they can unite. They can then see together how they can help each other.”
