Disappointment for fans; Cricket is no longer on the world stage
Cricket is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is also the most popular sport in the Indian subcontinent. But a news is coming out which will disappoint the cricket fans.
It has been confirmed that cricket will not be a sport in the 2028 Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, USA.
The International Olympic Committee has informed the ICC in writing that cricket will not be included in the Olympics in 2028.
A new sport is included in the list of competitions in the Olympics only if it strictly meets the criteria of the International Olympic Committee. This will include criteria such as safety of the players, interest of the host nation, reputation of the sport, gender equality, etc.
There are reports that only men’s cricket will not be included in the Olympics.
Earlier, cricket was not included as a sport in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
With this, the ICC started its efforts to include cricket in the 2028 Olympics. But with cricket being excluded from the 2028 Olympics, reports say that the ICC has started efforts to include cricket in the 2032 Olympics to be held in Brisbane, Australia.
And the fans are also hoping that cricket can be seen as a sport in the Olympics held in the popular land of Oasis.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee had included cricket in the list of nine sports to be considered for competition in the Olympics to be held in Los Angeles.
