Apple unveiled the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini models yesterday and the laptops feature the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips while the mini gets the base M2 in addition to the M2 Pro and we checked several regions around the world for pricing and shipping dates. According to what was mentioned by the gsmarena website.
Shipping dates are easy – January 24th, except for the US which lists the 23rd. However, the press release claimed January 24th as the start of shipping, so let’s go with that (which is Tuesday next week).

Note that the prices listed in the tables below are only for base configurations and Apple sells RAM and onboard storage and the unified memory model has a lower limit for example you can’t get an M2 Pro with less than 16GB of RAM or an M2 Max with less than 32 GB.
Let’s start with the new MacBook Pro. These devices replace the 14-inch and 16-inch Pros with M1 chips from October 2021, and the 13-inch model remains unchanged.

A note about chipsets – The basic 14-inch configuration has an M2 Pro with a 10-core CPU and a 16-core GPU. You can get the fully enabled 12/19 core M2 Pro for an extra $300. The 16-inch version only uses 12/19 core chips. The basic 14-inch M2 Max models start with a 30-core GPU and a 38-core GPU is an additional $200 (both have 12-core CPUs). The 16-inch M2 Max model comes with only 38 core GPUs. Yes, it’s confusing, so pay attention to the options.

Moving on to the new Mac mini, you can get the M2 or M2 Pro. There is no M2 Max option, maybe Apple will save that for the new studio. As with the laptop, the M2 Pro mini comes with a 10/16 core chip as standard and it’s a $300 upgrade to get the 12/19 core chip.
Another thing to note is that the M2 version only has two Thunderbolt ports while the M2 Pro version has four and both can have 10Gb ethernet but it’s an extra $100.

The $600 Mac mini looks like a steal. However you might want to get the extra memory and you’ll pay for it – going from 8GB to 16GB of RAM costs $200 and from a 256GB SSD to 512GB is another $200. Again the memory is soldered but attaching external storage is easy enough so you can skip upgrading the SSD.
