After the 2023 ODI World Cup, there is likely to be a heated discussion about the captaincy of the Indian cricket team again. Hardik Pandya, who is currently the captain of the T20 team, has the upper hand in ODI captaincy as well.
Hardik Pandya’s chances are increasing again in the background of reports that current captain Rohit Sharma will focus more on Test cricket.
Hardik’s challenge is that he has been getting injured every now and then, despite paying great attention to his fitness. But the achievements that he has given to India in the T20 while sitting in the captaincy position are beyond all that.
Hardik has won three T20 series. India achieved those victories by putting up a good performance as a team of Ireland, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
Keeping all this in mind, former captain Kapil Dev says that if the BCCI is thinking of considering Hardik as India’s one-day captain, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Kapil Dev says that Hardik should be allowed to stay in this position for a long time and even if some failures happen, the star should not be removed from the position.
“If you lose a series, don’t remove him because of it. That is not how we should treat captaincy. Hardik should be made the captain for a long time without deciding things based on series wins.
Rahul and Dhawan may be in the running for the captaincy, but Hardik is leading the race as their batting is so bad at the moment,’ said Kapil Dev.
Hardik was able to win the crown for Gujarat Titans in 2022 as the captain for the first time. All-rounder Hardik is also performing well in the ongoing India-New Zealand series.
