The 34th Plenary Session of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India is being held from Tuesday, January 24 to Monday, January 30 at St. John’s National Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore.

The 34th Colloquium of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India under the theme ‘Telling the Story of Jesus in Our Environment: A Journey Together’ has begun in Bengaluru.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, President of the Department of Evangelization, opened the meeting, which will be held from Tuesday 24th January to Monday 30th January at St. John’s National Institute of Medical Sciences in Bengaluru.

The first day of the meeting began with a keynote address by Cardinal Antonio Tagle, followed by CCBI President Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, and concluded with a final blessing by Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic See for India and Nepal.

Pope Francis’ message was read by CCBI Vice President Archbishop George Anthonysamy, CCBI General Secretary Archbishop Anil Joseph Thomas Couto of Delhi presented the annual report at the gathering.

Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay, Cardinal Anthony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad, Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore and Arulpani Stephen Alathara, Undersecretary of CCBI will participate in the meeting.

Conference events

During the first day’s session, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle gave the opening address on the theme of telling the story of Jesus in our environment through a journey of unity. Following him, there will be discussions on the life of the Talatriva, its implications for leadership, traveling relationship with other Christians and other religions, relations among the Talatriva, Christian unity, family, public status, women, liturgy, immigrants and many more.
