The purpose of communalism is to develop pro-Hindu ideology in Christian educational campuses: Rev. Silva

With the support of the pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which rules at the state and federal levels in Goa, Catholic educational institutions are becoming more and more communal, says Reverend Anthony Da Silva, director of the St. Xavier Center for Historical Research.

Pointing out that the aim is to develop pro-Hindu ideology in Christian educational campuses, Venerable Silva also pointed to the recent incident where some members of BJP’s student wing raised slogans and disrupted classes in the temple-run St. Xavier’s College.

Concerned that this is an unpleasant incident in a 60-year-old college, Reverend Tony Salema, the administrator of the college, explained that the situation was brought under control only with the help of the deputy collector when the protesters did not comply with the demands of the police department.

2022-23 held in December. It is noteworthy that after the pro-Hindu student wing won the council elections for the academic year, members of the ABVP (Akila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) forum protested against the college administration’s refusal to include a new student council in the college.

Established in 1963, two years after the end of 450 years of Portuguese rule in Goa, the college currently has over 2,000 students. (UCA)
