The Israeli cellular companies announce a big step towards a fifth generation network by Israel Hayom

The road to smart cities goes through the fifth generation of cellular – 5G, and yesterday (Wednesday) two of the main communication companies in Israel announced an important step on the way to the vision. Pelephone from the Bezeq Group (TASE:) and Partner (TASE:) announced significant milestones in the deployment of the advanced network, which will form the infrastructure for the technological vision of smart cities, remote smart medicine, gaming and virtual and augmented reality (AR/VR).

Pelephone announced that it has agreed with the telecom giant Ericsson (NASDAQ:) on “establishing a 5G network core”. According to Pelephone,

“The move to replace the network core will complement the existing 5th generation radio infrastructure by creating a flexible and efficient network that will enable the dynamic creation of services that require high browsing rates, high reliability and a quick response of the network to end devices (low latency) such as: smart traffic lights, autonomous vehicles, services Remote medicine, private virtual cellular networks, gaming applications, AR/VR glasses and more. The complex project will take about a year and a half.”

Partner Company (TASE:), which has the most extensive deployment in Israel, published a similar announcement at the same time – about the establishment of the Standalone 5G cloud-based network. In the Partner’s message it was said that

“As is customary in the global cellular market, and as a natural evolution, the 5th generation networks are based in the first stage on the 4th generation core, with the second and complementary stage being the establishment of a network based on an independent core (Standalone). The establishment of the network will take about a year and a half with an investment of tens of millions of shekels, when the cooperation Between Partner and Ericsson will last 5 years.”

The HOT company also currently provides news related to Internet infrastructure. The company announced a “2x” campaign, in the framework of which it will upgrade the upload speed for fiber customers – for free and proactively, that is – without the need for the customer to apply. The move will be accompanied by a campaign that will air starting this evening starring the company’s presenter – Gal Gadot.
