Dutchman Marijn van den Berg signed his first professional success by winning the Trofeo Port d’Alcudia, second round of the Mallorca Challenge, Thursday in Alcudia, in the Balearic Islands. The EF Education runner, 23, beat Briton Ethan Vernon after a hard-fought bunch sprint on a winding and slippery road. Like the Eritrean Binian Girmay, winner in 2022 and 3rd on Thursday, several riders denounced a finish “too dangerous“. Escaped 25 km from the line in the descent of the Col de Sa Battalla, the main difficulty of the day, the German champion Nils Politt was caught seven kilometers from the finish.
