The BCCI has already announced the squad for the first two matches of the series. But the BCCI announced the team by leaving out a player who deserves to be in the team.
The selectors turned their backs on Sarfaraz Khan, who has been consistently performing well in the Ranji Trophy. The selectors picked Suryakumar and Ishan Kishan for the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad as they scored back-to-back centuries and led their team to victory when Sarfaraz was failing in Ranji.
The fans were also happy that Sarfaraz was dropped and Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar were included in the team.
The Cricket Board is the first to respond to the issue. Siddharth Sarath, the national selector, gave the management’s stand on the matter in an interview to Sportsstar.
Kohli is still a match winner. Cheteshwar Pujara is showing consistent performance in batting. Rohit Sharma is a good captain and he is doing well in batting as well. Shreyas Iyer is consistent. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill have real talent,’ said Siddharth about the team as a whole.
Asked about the omission of Sarfaraz, he said, ‘He is on our radar. He can make the team at the right time. “When selecting a team, one has to consider things like composition and balance,” he replied.
Only the squad for the two matches of the four-match series has now been selected. The squad for the other two matches will be selected in the coming days.
