The World Health Organization declared a health emergency on January 30, 2020, asserting that the corona virus has become a global threat. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization, has expressed concern about the withdrawal of the Covid-19 health emergency after three years. Tedros expressed concern about its withdrawal at the 14th meeting on Friday.

At the end of 2019, the first outbreak of the coronavirus was in China. Later, within a short time, it reached all the countries of the world. After three years of many covid waves, another strong covid wave has hit China. Today the covid rates are soaring in many foreign countries.

At the same time, we are in a better position now than we were a year ago. However, since the beginning of December, the number of cases reported per week has been increasing. Dr. Tedros said that the figures indicate that the number of cases around the world is increasing.

40,000 deaths were reported to the World Health Organization last week alone. More than half of these are from China. As soon as the lockdown was eased, a new wave was spreading in China. More than 1,70,000 deaths have also been reported in the last eight weeks. The actual death toll is sure to be much higher. In this context, it is necessary to consider whether to withdraw the state of health emergency’ – said Tedros.

Tedros also said at the weekly press conference held last week that he cannot make a decision on this issue by considering only the opinion of the committee and that he is concerned about the increasing number of covid deaths in many countries.
