On Sunday, a sea route linking the ports of Aqaba and the USA was launched, which should reduce the duration of the voyage between them from 35 to 22 days. The Chairman of the Council in charge of the Authority for the Special Economic Zone in Aqaba, Naif Elfaiz, said that the opening of this maritime route will contribute to strengthening the free trade agreement between Jordan and the USA and added that this is an excellent opportunity for industrial companies in Jordan to increase their exports at competitive prices and in less time.
Alfaiz emphasized that the Aqaba Authority provides great benefits and incentives to investors, traders and industrialists to start their work, including customs and logistics facilities to assist in import, export and customs clearance activities, in order to save effort, time and money.
The CEO of the Aqaba Development Company, the executive arm of the Aqaba Authority, Hussein Al-Safadi, confirmed that the authority’s strategy is based on attracting the private sector to invest within the economic zone through a medium-term plan, which includes several components, the most important of which are industry, logistics, professional training and tourism .
The CEO of the Aqaba Container Port Company, Soren Jensen, also emphasized the importance of the new line for traders and exporters to the American market.
