Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi court awarded compensation to a worker who was seriously injured during work. The court awarded a compensation of 250,000 dirhams to the worker. The pump that was being repaired fell on the body and the worker suffered fractures to his spine and ribs. The worker then filed a case against the company owner demanding compensation. The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court had earlier sentenced the company owner.

The court sentenced the company owner for negligence and violation of safety standards. The company owner was fined Dh10,000 and the worker was given temporary compensation of Dh60,000, but the worker filed a civil suit against the company owner seeking further compensation. The court awarded compensation to the worker on the basis of the investigation finding that the accident was caused by the company’s negligence and lack of safety measures to protect the workers.
