Even the visually impaired will be able to appreciate the Veiled Christ and the other wonders of the Sansevero Chapel thanks to the new project starting in December. «DescriVedendo Sansevero», a dedicated museum tour, available on the audio guide of the baroque temple in via de Sanctis, was created in collaboration with the National Association of Subvedenti ODV. The initiative was presented this morning (Tuesday 30 November) at the Museo Cappella Sansevero da Maria Alessandra Masucci, President of the Sansevero Chapel Museum, Rosa Garofalo, Direction and Coordination of projects of the National Association of Subvedenti ODV and Head of external relations DescriVedendo e Marco Boneschi, curator of the DescriVedendo project. «DescriVedendo Sansevero» proposes an inclusive visit itinerary that is weighted on the specific needs of visually impaired people, with the aim of making the historical-artistic heritage of the museum accessible, through suitable reception methods. The project involves the creation of a certified descriptive text created following a specific method, precise guidelines and subsequent validation phases by a panel of sector employees. «The Sansevero Chapel Museum continues with the initiatives dedicated to social inclusion, in order to create a bridge that reduces the distance with the world of disability. – explains Maria Alessandra Masucci, President of the Sansevero Chapel Museum – Encouraging the enjoyment of art through the use of technology and a language calibrated to the needs of visually impaired people, will allow everyone to appreciate the masterpieces we are lucky enough to keep. For this reason, the DescriVedendo tour route will be available to anyone who wishes to experience it, immersing themselves for a moment with their eyes closed in the beauty of this place ». «We are happy that the collaboration with the Sansevero Chapel has allowed us to bring the DescriVedendo project to Naples, exiting Lombardy for the first time. – explains Rosa Garofalo Director and Coordinator of ANS projects and Head of external relations of DescriVedendo – ANS since 1970 has been promoting activities and services for people with visual disabilities in all areas of daily life, in particular through inclusion and sharing projects that guarantee equal opportunities. DescriVedendo is our flagship in the field of cultural accessibility: thanks to the evocative power of language it allows everyone an inclusive use of works of art ».

25 minute visit

«DescriVedendo Sansevero» is a service always available to the visitor: the certified text has in fact become a special tour loaded on the museum’s audio guide, lasting 25 minutes, in which the works and the magnificence of the Baroque Chapel are illustrated to allow people with visual disabilities the autonomous use of the wonders of the monumental complex. The musical interludes and the narrative voice of the actor Riccardo Mei accompany the visitor in the historical tale, enriched by a preliminary environmental description that allows people with visual disabilities to create a mental map to orient themselves in the space in which they find themselves. Information is provided on the possible presence of perceptual barriers and all useful information on the mobility allowed within the museum. After a brief introduction on the Chapel, the story focuses on the three main works: the Veiled Christ, Modesty and Disillusionment of which all the morphological and symbolic details are provided as well as the information of the historical and artistic context. The visitor is then guided towards the exit to the Sacristy where the visit ends. The audio guide containing the special tour will be provided free of charge to all those who have a proven visual impairment.
