Ciudadanos continues to debate whether to run with its initials in the May elections. The party leadership rules it out but the deputy mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, has insisted on its electoral proposal.
In an interview with the newspaper ‘El Mundo’, he repeated his idea of allowing each municipal team to decide if they want to stand in the elections with the Acronym for Citizens or is presented along with other parties. Villacís has recognized that “sometimes it will be necessary to sacrifice acronyms at a certain time.”
It is for this reason that the deputy mayor of Madrid wanted to give them “flexibility“, listening to the needs of these municipal teams. “No one better than someone who has been working in their municipality for years and years to know what is the best way to attend“, he argued.
“Join Forces” in some cities
Facing the next elections in May, Villacís has warned that “it is obligatory and morally responsible join forces in some places”, because they are “most important people and what they defend than the acronyms”.
This matter about the acronyms occurs after ‘El País’ has published that Villacís plans to be an “internal current” within the Popular Party. The deputy mayor has now stated that this issue “is something that would be buried among the thousands of things that have been discussed.”
“It is not even a proposal that I defend. I only echoed all those demands that exist, which are a reality,” she assured in her statements, where she also wanted to insist that she did not cite the initials of the PP “in any moment”.
On this issue, the president of the Popular Party in the Community of Madrid has also stated: “The best of Ciudadanos already came with me in 2021. That center-right union in Madrid already took place years ago. I don’t know what all this mess is about” , the regional president wanted to settle.
