Alexei Navalny, the Russian dissident who has been in prison since the beginning of the year after having saved himself from an attempted poisoning, he will be transferred to the hospital ward of the IK-3 penal colony of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) in the Vladimir region, which specializes in medical observation of detainees. This was announced by the press office of the penitentiary service, adding that the prisoner’s conditions, however, are not critical. Instead, the family and the spokesperson have been sounding the alarm for days: in the third week of hunger strike, Navalny has lost 15 kilos and has severe symptoms.
The transfer to the IK-3 penal colony is a transfer to the same torture colony, only with a large hospital, where the seriously ill are transferred. And this must be understood as the fact that Navalny’s condition has deteriorated so much that even the torture colony admits it. Ivan Zhdanov, director of the Anti-Corruption Fund led by Navalny himself, writes on Twitter. pretty clear that we are now being given some sort of good news about Alexey’s condition before the protest. Don’t be fooled – we can only get the true information from lawyers, he added. Street protests in support of the detainee Navalny, organized by his network, are expected across Russia for Wednesday.
According to the prison service, Navalny’s conditions are satisfactory and the authorities report that he receives daily medical examinations. The facility is referred to as the regional hospital for prisoners. According to the FSIN, Navalny is visited daily by a general practitioner and with the patient’s consent, he is prescribed vitamin therapy. The prison authorities have been contesting for days the appeals of the dissident’s family, which claims that Aleksei Navalny is dying in prison, already tried by the poisoning last summer (which according to journalistic reconstructions comes from the Russian government itself). And on the pro-government media, like Izvestia e Ren Tv, videos appear showing an inmate in Navalny’s dormitory doing push-ups and sleeping peacefully at night, to indicate that he is actually fine. The family and his movement, on the other hand, are supported by the European and American institutions in demanding his release and remind the Russian government that it is his responsibility to keep prisoner Navalny alive.
