Following Mayor Ariel’s appeal – the garbage incineration site in Salafit is being vacated

by time news

After a long period in which the residents of the city of Ariel had to absorb the odor hazards and the air pollution that arose from the pirated garbage incinerator in Salafit, today (Tuesday) the hazard was removed.

The Ariel Municipality said that every evening for a long time, the city of Ariel has been surrounded by a smelly cloud of smoke that has caused the residents severe breathing problems. An inspection revealed that the source of the hazard was a pirate garbage burning site that was established near the city of Salfit. Following Mayor Ariel Eli Shabir’s appeal to the Environmental Quality Committee, Benny Elbaz from the Environmental Quality Unit in the Civil Administration, he acted in order to promote the treatment of the hazard, and today we were informed that the hazard has been removed.

Mayor Eli Shabiru: “I am happy for the response and assistance of the Environmental Quality Committee to locate and treat the pirate incinerator hazard in Salafit. Beyond the smell hazard, such an incinerator releases plastic particles and other substances into the air that can cause damage and breathing problems in babies and sensitive people. The update this morning that the hazard has been dealt with and the incinerator has been closed and covered is important news for all Ariel residents. We continue to monitor and check that the activity at the garbage incinerator will not be renewed and that no more incinerators will be opened in our area.”
