The helicopter with ballistic parachute that the US likes is made in Italy

by time news

Time.news – Its name recalls Zefiro, the spring wind from the west, light but effective. The Zephir, the world’s first ballistic parachute helicopter, is preparing for its US debut: an ultralight two-seater, equipped with a built-in parachute that can be opened in an emergency, slowing the descent of the aircraft and thus allowing a safe landing.

A project already carried out in Italy by Curti – an industrial group of Castel Bolognese (Ravenna), leader in the mechatronics sector for 66 years (100 million euros in turnover) – which will soon be revived in the United States and which already provides for an average sale of 25 helicopters a year that can be assembled directly in the States.

“In a competitive market like the US – Alessandro Curti explains to Time.news – it was important to enter the American mentality, without taking it for granted. Despite the pandemic, we are ready to send the aircraft to the States in July. “. An encouraging news for Italian exports.

In order to better meet the American market, the Ravenna group invested in the United States, setting up the company in North Carolina and hiring staff on site. An adventure that began in 2018 with innovative industrial machinery, which then generated new opportunities for the historic Group.

Packaging machines and technologies for the production of wiring harnesses for the automotive industry were the first investment by Curti, which is extending its activities overseas to other company branches: in particular, the “aerospace division” will see its imminent development. .

Mechatronics has therefore been the forerunner to further business divisions and a change of location in America is also being considered, a more spacious place to build a hangar to assemble the Zefhir aircraft.
