Paying respect to “Diva” in the run-up to the Eurovision Song Contest

by time news

Monica Naranjo, a 48-year-old singer born in Catalonia and one of the biggest singers in Spain, opened last night (Tuesday) the first semi-final night of the Spanish Eurovision Song Contest with her own version of the song “Diva”. The song, originally performed by Dana International and composed by Zvika Peak, brought Israel victory in the competition 25 years ago and is still considered one of the most famous winners.

Naranjo appeared with a black headdress on her head, in what was defined by the organizers of the broadcaster at the Spanish broadcasting corporation RTVE as “a sign of support for the hijab protest and the women of Iran.” After the performance Naranjo told the local media that she herself dedicated the song to her mother and added “It meant a lot when she (Dana International) won, this song and everything that happened afterwards moved me very much.”
