As we have published on other occasions in Spain and around the world, after the Covid-19 pandemic, excess deaths have been experienced. Nobody knows how to explain it, although there are several theories, so I have proposed to offer two versions that may be contradictory or complementary, depending on how you see it.
On the one hand there is a conference and debate by the doctor Teacher Angelstitled the “Excess Mortality and the Ostrich Tactic”. She was introduced by the also doctor, already retired but always active, Juan Gervasfrom the Seminar on Innovation in Primary Care.
Nines Maestro presented the available data on excess deaths in our country compared to other developed countries:
In September and since the beginning of 2022, in our country they have 30,479 more people died than expected. This summer, Spain has tripled the figures of the European Union. A phenomenon that cannot be analyzed in the absence of context”.

What can it be due to? To put the data in context, in the whole of 2020, with the pandemic at its bestthere was in Spain an excess of deaths of 68,172 people.

Another point of view, to give a opposite view: What is the cause of excess mortality in 2022? It doesn’t seem like it’s because of the Covid-19 vaccines:

For them, the virus SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate and epidemiological data show that deaths from Covid-19 continue to represent a significant part of the excess mortality.
And in second place
it is likely that the exceptional heat waves July and August 2022 have increased the risk of death, since excess heat can directly or indirectly cause death.
They also point out that Systems of health of many countries are still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Many hospitals remain underfunded, insufficient equipment and staff, leading to a poor care for the patients.
