The truckers enter the dance… but not against the pension reform. Several truck drivers carried out a snail operation this Thursday morning on the dual carriageway between Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) and La Gravelle (Mayenne), causing major traffic jams, reports Le Journal de Vitré.
Called upon by the Groupement France TPE Transports to mobilize, independent truck drivers are thus mobilizing against the increase in fuel prices, while the bar of 2 euros per liter on average could soon be exceeded, both for diesel and for unleaded.
In Brittany, the snail operation was not without causing slowdowns. “Traffic is on a single lane,” said Bison smart at 7:30 a.m., and “a traffic jam of about 5 km was created upstream of the event,” reports Ouest-France. At the Gravelle toll, around thirty truck drivers set up a filter barrier to stop transport trucks, especially foreign ones. “We will stay there until our president gets what he wants, we can stay tonight, we will see”, assured Ouest-France one of the leaders of the demonstration.
An operation prohibited in the Pas-de-Calais
A snail operation was also to take place on the A1 motorway, in the north of France, between Dourges (Pas-de-Calais) and Bapaume (Pas-de-Calais), but the prefecture prohibited it from being held. “Due to the nature of the gathering and the blockages mentioned by the organizer which could cause very significant security problems”, she notes in a press release published on her website.
“Following this ban, the organizer indicated to the prefecture that he would not participate in this movement, without being able to indicate whether its members maintained their desire to block the A1”, also continues the prefecture of Pas de Calais. Then to indicate that, at 8 am this Thursday, traffic was fluid on the main road. “A truck driver wishing to participate in the movement presented himself at one of the assembly points. He quickly left the scene, without causing any slowdown, ”she continues.
