Tel Aviv has overtaken cities including Paris and Zurich to become the world’s most expensive city.
According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel, which was ranked 5th last year, has been ranked as the most expensive city in the world to live in.
The Worldwide Cost of Living Index has been maintained by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for three decades.
By 2020, Paris was the most expensive city in the world, followed by Singapore, Zurich and Hong Kong in Switzerland.
This time, for the first time, Tel Aviv is at the top, according to the EIU, due to the strong position of the Israeli shackle against the dollar and the increase in transport and grocery prices in the city.

The city with the highest rise in the index is Tehran, the capital of Iran. This is because it has improved from 70th to 50th place in 2020 and is now 29th.
