Dhat you have to rewrite a finished text completely after a computer crash and total loss of what you have written is an annoyance that you will not soon forget. In creative professions such as journalism, the air is often out. After you’ve tormented yourself once, you don’t want to tackle it a second time.
The good news is that such a total loss is rare compared to previous times. When you still had to start every single backup process on floppy disk or hard drive manually, when the writing software was much more choppy and unstable, technology-related detentions were more common. There was neither a cloud, in which one quickly saved in between, nor a permanently available internet connection. In addition, there were pitfalls of text programs that are no longer found today. It could happen that the document structure was damaged in such a way that a text that had been worked on for weeks, including all backup copies, was irretrievably lost overnight.
