In the last report, the Ministry of Health of the Nation reported 19,416 new infections of Covid-19 in the last seven days in Argentina and 89 deaths in the same period which, together with the 78 deaths reported in the first week of January, add up to a total of 167 mkilled by the virus so far in 2023.
Regarding the 89 reported deaths, the data represents an increase of around 14% compared to the report of January 9, of the first week of the year, when 78 deaths were reported.
The data that does show a notable decrease is that of registered cases: This is the second consecutive week of decline in reported infections, after the marked increase that had occurred in the last weeks of 2022 that had set off the alarms.
It is that, in the first week of January, 40,982 cases had been reported, 52% more than this week.
Contagions and deaths from COVID-19 in Argentina grow again
With these latest data, the total number of infections reached 10,024,095 and that of deaths since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in Argentina, in March 2020, reached 130,338.
Currently they are 404 patients with coronavirus admitted to intensive care, with a system occupation of 40.9 percent.

Covid-19: the provinces with the most reported cases
The five provinces that reported the most infections were Buenos Aires, with 5,023; Cordoba, with 3,541; Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, with 1754; Santa Fe, with 1,251 and Tucumán, with 1,061.
Meanwhile, the rest of the provinces reported less than a thousand positive cases, while Misiones (80) and Tierra del Fuego (36) were the districts with less than one hundred infections.
The province of Buenos Aires reported 21 deaths from the disease, in Mendoza 16 were registered; Santa Fe 13; City of Buenos Aires 8; Between Ríos and Salta 5 in both cases, Córdoba and Tucumán 4 and Río Negro, 3.
In Catamarca, Neuquén and San Luis, 2 deaths were reported in each province, while Chaco, Santiago del Estero, Chubut and Tierra del Fuego reported one death from the disease.
It should be remembered that, at the beginning of January, the Ministry of Health directed by Carla Vizzotti made official the extension of the health emergency throughout the country, which will be in force until December 31, 2023, due to the coronavirus and its impact on both the population health and the health care system.
The measure occurs within the framework of an increase in positive cases of coronavirus throughout the Argentine territory: “Despite the fact that a high level of acquired population immunity against SARS CoV-2 has been reached, related to a combination of high incidence of infections in successive waves of infections and very high vaccination coverage, high circulation of SARS CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses is once again registered,” the portfolio detailed in decree 863.
