Is there a chance to Virat Kohli to continue as ODI captain? | ODI captaincy: Is Virat Kohli likely to continue as ODI captain?

India vs South Africa 2021: BCCI President Saurav Ganguly and Secretary Jai Shah will decide whether Virat Kohli will continue as ODI captain. It will be decided as soon as possible whether Virat Kohli will continue as the ODI captain. Expectations will end when the list for the team heading to South Africa is released this week.

The future of Virat Kohli as the captain of the Indian ODI team will be decided this week when the national selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma selects the squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa.

Although India’s tour of South Africa was planned in advance, questions have been raised as to whether the tour will take place in the wake of the new COVID-19 variant of the Omigron virus being detected in the country.

With the T20I scheduled to be played in Australia in 2022, there will be only nine ODIs over the next seven months, six abroad (three each in South Africa and the UK) and three in India. Since there will be a bio-bubble, it is expected that the Jumbo Squad with more players may be selected. Taking into account all the possibilities, the team can accommodate 20 to 23 people.

There are currently two types of thinking in the BCCI. With only a few ODIs left, it is said that Kohli may be allowed to continue as captain. Rohit Sharma could be announced as the captain for the ODIs as he needs to be given enough time to prepare a powerful team that can be serious title contenders for the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India.

While these two views are being discussed, the final decision rests with the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jai Shah. The setback for him is that Kohli has not been able to get the titles.

The Indian team will be announced in the next few days. Once everything is ready we will wait for the government’s approval. If the government instructs us to abandon the trip due to the Omigron infection, we are ready for that too. But it is also necessary to select the team and keep it ready, ”a senior BCCI official told PTI on Wednesday.

The ACCM meeting of the BCCI is scheduled to be held in Kolkata on Saturday this week. At that meeting, updating the tenure of Chetan and company is part of the agenda.

It is said that the BCCI and Cricket South Africa will play the entire series unless there is any specific instruction from the Indian government against the tour. However, it has been revealed that the three-Test series could be reduced to one match.
