Beijing, China | Sixteen people were killed and dozens injured Saturday night in a traffic accident involving dozens of vehicles in central China, authorities announced Sunday.
In the images disseminated by the Chinese media, several trucks on fire and damaged vehicles were seen.
About 50 vehicles were involved in the accident on a highway in Hunan province, the police said in a statement.
More than 180 rescuers were deployed to the accident site, the People’s Daily reported.
The Chinese ministry of emergency management announced that it has commissioned an investigation into the causes of the accident.
